GTBank Plc: Protecting Your Bank Account(s) and Funds

Taking care of our bank accounts is part of our responsibilities and that is why we should take all necessary steps to ensure it is safe from fraudsters. I recieved a message few days ago from Guaranty Trust Bank Plc titled “Protecting Your Account(s) and Funds” and I thought I should make a post about it here so every one can read and benefit from it, even if you are not using GTB. It also applies to all other bank accounts. Below is an extracted copy of the message.

To ensure your account(s) and funds are protected from internet, ATM and other forms of fraud, we would like to familiarize you with the following safety guidelines.
1. Guaranty Trust Bank will NEVER ask you to provide or update sensitive information about your account(s) over the web, via telephone or letters.
PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND to any such mails, letters or calls requiring you to provide your PIN (Personal Identification Numbers), Internet Banking User Id and password, Token code or other sensitive information.
2. Always exercise great care when using your ATM card or accessing the GTBank internet banking platform in public places.
DO NOT ask for assistance from strangers and ensure no one is looking over your shoulder while you type in your password or PIN.
3. ONLY access our Internet Banking service through the Guaranty Trust Bank website: www.gtbank.com
4. Kindly inform us of any spurious emails or phone calls via GTConnect; our 24hrs fully interactive self service contact centre on 0700 GTCONNECT (0700 482666328), 01-448 0000, 0803 900 3900 or 0802 900 2900.
Yeah… that is it. I believed you found one or two things to hold unto. Always be careful of how you handle your bank account details and ATM PINS.
Your Internet Banking User ID and Password, ATM Card Number and PIN are confidential and should never be disclosed to anyone.
